About this deal

Day 4: Pouring another glass from the eto and the opened bottle, the difference really started to show. The eto wine tasted just like it did on the day of opening, except better as it had had a chance to breath but the opened bottle was already starting to lose its quality. Siobhan Wallace has written about food and wine for over a decade and passed the WSET Level 3, Wines, with Merit. While learning how long to properly decant a bottle of wine was hard, learning how to properly clean the decanter was harder. We loved the feel of the carafe, which is slender around the spout and feels great in the hand. While the YouYah was smaller than most of the decanters we tested, it still comfortably holds a full 750ml bottle of wine. Beautiful floral aromas with touches of cedar and lime zest, ripe apples and elegant jasmine nuances. Lovely texture, with well layered flavours and creamy texture. Alc 13% Lua Cheia, Andreza Reserva Branco 2021

The Rabbit Pura decanter comes complete with its own aerating system, pulling double duty with its smart modern design. To use, simply pour a standard 750-milliliter bottle into the decanter to aerate while the stainless steel stopper directs the wine down the sides of the decanter; let it decant for the desired time. Upon pouring, the mesh strainer will catch any sediment and prevent it from landing in your glass.

Material: Lead-free crystal | Capacity: 60 ounces | Dimensions (LxWxH): 8.5 x 8.5 x 10 inches | What’s Included: Decanter, drying stand, stopper, brush, beads The modern, sleek, designed decanter is part of the Schott Zwiesel pure range. The unique shape matches the popular pure glassware range; the angled bowl helps maximise the aeration process.

Like reds, certain whites, can also pour out a little tight—sometimes due to being too cold, sometimes depending on the grape varietal (some Chardonnays can express very differently after some decanting). In that case, a little extended exposure to oxygen might free up some much-needed aromatics, and show a little more dimensionality in a white that seems crisp and refreshing, sure, yet might have a bit more to it. And then—and here’s a newbie—there’s the presence of mercaptans, basically sulfur-derived compounds that tend to thrive in the anaerobic environment of screwtop wine bottles (the kind that plenty of “young,” and/or “ready to drink” white wines come in). Mercaptans, it turns out, tend to bring a lot of that sulfur character to the top layer of your wine’s aromatics—cabbage, rotten stuff, rubber, etc. Not all mercaptans are bad, in fact some contribute to varietal character. But most whites, certainly screwtop whites, could use even a brief, “airing out,” to let those sulfur-derived compounds go.

Wineware’s Top 5 Wine Decanters for White Wine

This is a seriously good wine, full of energy, with great line and length to its peach, apple and oak vanilla flavours, the balance also impeccable. The more you sit with it, the more reasonable the price seems. Alc 13% Nivarius, Edición Limitada 2016 You can decant wines anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. It definitely depends on the wine. It’s okay to taste it after 30 minutes and see how it’s developed, then leave it in for longer if necessary. It’s made of hand-blown, 100% lead-free crystal and similar to the decanters above, has a wide base that not only provides stability, but allows for aeration of your wine. The decanter measures 6.5 inches at its widest diameter, can hold up to 44 ounces, and the angled spout allows for drip-free pouring. With sustainability in mind, this is made from 100 percent lead-free, recycled glass. It comes with a 60-day guarantee in case of breakage.

White wines can be decanted, and it won’t hurt the wine. It's more common to decant the heavier whites like your California chardonnays or Rhone Valley white blends. They just don’t need to be decanted as long as reds, 20 to 40 minutes should do just fine. Since it's made of glass and not crystal, it's less precious when in use—and more durable overall—but is slightly heavy. Each piece is handblown as well, so you'll see air bubbles within the glass, giving it a unique look and feel. So, when we heard about eto (rhymes with Dolcetto), a wine decanter that preserves your wine for up to two weeks, we wanted to find out more and of course to put it to the test!Going a little lower on price doesn’t always mean that you have to compromise on quality, as proven by this wine decanter by BOQO.
